Dragons and Avians alike are usually trained in hand to hand (talon to tail as the case may be) combat, and as weapons go, use staffs, swords, bows and arrows or crossbows. Avians have in addition to these weapons a few magic imbued and non magic weapons that are particular to their race.
Jet arrows are a unique kind of arrow that only exist as long as the current Queen of any clutch is alive. That is to say, if the Crow Queen dies (which she recently had), all the Jet arrows made under her rule became ordinary arrows. Those made under a different clutch Queen, such as the Cormorant Queen, would still be Jet arrows, since their Queen still lives.
Before she becomes a Roc, the Queen gifts every member who is at or above the age of Choosing one of her flight feathers with which to fletch a special arrow. This arrow is the equivalent of a guided missle, almost nothing can stop it from reaching its target. One has but to notch and arrow, whisper the name of the target and where the arrow should strike, and loose it. It flies of its own accord until hitting the target with extreme accuracy, even if that target is mobile. Once it completes its mission, the arrow removes itself and returns to the owner's quiver on its own. A very formidable weapon, you know an Avian means business when he or she draws this arrow out for use. Until the Queen dies, the arrow is unbreakable, never gets a dull tip, always returns to the quiver no matter what, and rarely misses its target.
Upon completion of the ritual that transfers the millions of souls from a recently departed Lawgiver to the current one, the new Lawgiver is given the Lawgiver's Baston. It is a magic imbued staff made of ash that carries a fetish that represents every Lawgiver who has had it before him or her. Although it can be used as a fierce weapon, this staff is also a very powerful focus for a Lawgiver when using the souls who inhabit him/her. Although it has never been done in this lifetime, a famous Lawgiver named Aracuan once defeated a band of rogue Avians bent on killing her and releasing the ancestors (not knowing that they would have unleashed millions of Raiders). Using the Baston to expel their souls from their bodies, dropping them like flies right where they stood.
A special non-magic weapon that all Avian males receive at the time of Choosing is a Krai staff. It's an ash staff that has their clan's pictograph carved into it, and is the weapon of choice for the youth who love to beat their opponents senseless.
