Avians are winged humanoids that have sharp, retractable talons on both their hands and feet. Wing color varies by the individual but are limited to black, white, grey, brown or a speckled combination of any two of the four. They are mammalian, but have the hollow bone structure of birds. Wing spans tend to be 6 - 10 feet for average Avians, but as Kings and Queens of the various clutches become Rocs when they get older, that of course changes.
Avians mate as humans do, but the females carry the get for ten months, not nine; after laying their eggs, the eggs incubate for a month more, to produce winged infants roughly the size of human babies. A Naming ceremony is performed by a Lawgiver when the egg is lain, and they are lain in the communal rookeries and aeries, then given a Hatching ceremony when the month is up. Twins are not lain in the same egg, but have their own, and are lain one right after the other. The most eggs an Avian is physically capable of carrying at any time is three, so triplets is the most anyone can expect from a single pregnancy (it's VERY rare that even twins are born, though, let alone triplets, 99% of ALL clutches only ever are pregnant with one at a time.) Avians physically mature at an accelrated rate compared to humans, about a five years to every one year of human life, but they stop appearing to age after they leave adolescence. This means an Avian could look like she's 20 years old or so, but is really 120, lol. They are not immortal but do enjoy an extended longevity, the average lifespan of a common Avian being 1000 years if they are healthy.
You will never see a deformed or infirm Avian. This has to do with ancient Law, and will be explained further in that thread, but you should also note that there are never any telling scars or permanently mutilated body parts (except tattoos, but those are more marks than mutilation), not only because of Law, but every clutch has a healer that knows magic that can make any Avian completely whole, no scarring or lasting blemishes whatsoever.
The humanoid features of an Avian are as varied as any human on Earth; racial features are completely up to the player, such as height, skin, eye and hair color, body type, etc. Again, as long as they look human with wings, the choice is yours.
