Sharing the top position of the food chain with Dragons, Avians have no natural enemies, and since they admire the Dragons so greatly (with the exception of Ravens, lol), it’s small wonder that they are also the greatest of allies. Very recently, Crows and Dragons have honored one another by allowing each other to witness key rituals and ceremonies, and even going so far as Crows allowing Dragon royalty to attend a Contest of Law. These are historical firsts, and only occur thus far between Crows and Dragons, not because Dragons are not welcome, but because it simply never occurred to anyone to invite them. Subtle is technically the first Avian to ever marry a Dragon, and although she is now a Dragon herself, she retains her magic, alchemy, and some genetics of her Avian heritage, so new bridges are constantly being built between Avians and Dragons. This is not, however, an invitation to bend or break Law in the interests of international solidarity. Kings, Queens and Lawgivers must run any Contests of Law that would change the Law by me before it is approved. (I’m as flexible as can be, have no fear; if it’s reasonable, I might even adopt the change permanently for all Avians.)
The only enemies Avians have in Beyond are rogue Avians, who are hunted down and executed, and Raiders. Raiders are a black, miasmic spirit that hunts young, dying and injured Avians, eating them alive. It was discovered by Subtle in her Madrecuerva incarnation that Raiders are actually the souls of Avians who did not enter the body of a Lawgiver when they died. These creatures are strictly npcs, since they have no spoken language, no society whatsoever, and are basically mindless eating machines. You can use them in your rp as long as you don’t try to get them to speak or be reasonable. The only way to stop a Raider from eating is to “kill” it; yes, they are spirits, but are as susceptible to swords as any living Avian. Once you kill a Raider, it ceases to exist on any plane or world; it is gone forever. More on Raiders in Allies and Enemies of Dragons.
