Clans

Families of "regular faeries" (which will henceforth be referred to simply as faeries, assuming that all else will be referred to as fey creatures) are called clans. Most young do not leave their homes unless called away by youthful inclination or marriage. That can mean that a faerie would live with his or her parents forever.
A clan is determined by the family patriarch's magic. For instance Hectic, Flowers, and Spinner belong to the FoxFire clan, not because of FoxFire's name, but because it is the form of light he shares with them all. If there is ever a family urgency that requires immediate contact, one has but to send up a "flare," usually a surge in a clan power, and the rest will home in on the family member. So the power of the father not only becomes the clan name, but some form of that power is bestowed upon his wife and children, so they are bonded in name and power.
When a male faerie marries, his wife is no longer of her father's clan; her husband begins a new one, and she becomes a part of his clan. The clans ally easily, though, as long as there is mutual respect. There have been epic clan wars, though, throughout the history of Tintagel. Show proper respect, that's the name of the game.
