This world is not like any other you may have rp'd in before. Avians are fiercely tribal, with a lot of Laws, and some of them involve ritualistic cannibalism. Mrp, or mature role play, may be hinted at but is not allowed in the threads. Our world is developmentally arrested, the Terran equivalent of the Medieval period. Anachronism is forbidden, eg, no guns, cannons, things like that. This is because the world is completely run by magic; we have no moon, but we have tides and gravity. It is the choice of the site owner to keep this world strictly magic, and the magic here is stronger than most anywhere else. It would be abnormal for someone NOT to be born with magic capabilities.
Avians, with the exception of Kings and Queens of clutches, always look basically like angels with talons on their hands and feet, and wing color is not based on what clutch you were hatched from. For example, Subtle's sisters, Beautiful Avenger and The Royal Consort Tien e were born with grey and white wings respectively, yet they are all Crows (well, Subtle is a Dragon now, but was born a Crow). Subtle's original wings, incidentally, were black feathers.
This gives the player greater freedom on avatar design within any given clutch. It can be explained by the idea that sometimes eggs that don't belong to one bird sometimes end up getting hatched together by accident in nature. Also, if you're a Cormorant who chooses an Eagle for a mate, chances are their get will be hatched with white, brown, or speckled wings. More on this in the Avians thread.
As far as what they normally wear, though, the Crow clutch tends to dress like your average Medieval peasant, with the exception of the Hunters, who look a tad more like Celtic warriors. Thunderbirds dress somewhat like Native Americans, Cormorants act like the French but dress like the Mandarin Chinese, Swans have a more ancient Greek style, Eagles are modeled after Germans ala Brothers Grimm, and Ravens have a Russian look, ala country peasants.
And just in case you’re wondering, Dragons have the whole “Viking” thing going on. Their style of dress is just based on the way the clans live in their regions, and don’t reflect ethnicity at all. And not every member of every clutch is going to sport the common garb of their land, so you’ll see Crows dressed like ancient Egyptians or samurai, Thunderbirds who look like Vikings or Mongols, etc.
These descriptions are points of reference, and completely flexible, as long as you don’t try to go too far into the future. We would also like it noted that the descriptions in Beyond were made with painstaking care. Please pay close attention to the descriptions that will tell anyone exactly what each area is like.
If you have any questions, no matter how great or small, please pm a staff member, we'll be happy to clarify. Enjoy!
